As he told the Hebrew daily "Yediot Ahronot", "This is a historic house, and to this day I have not talked about it with anybody". The house is located in Shuafat, a neighborhood in East Jerusalem which was one of the most prestigious in the city before it was captured by Israel in 1967. If the story told by Mu'in Khoury is to be believed, "Bin-Laden's father came from Saudi Arabia in the 1940s, bought the house, and lived in it from time to time." "Osama also spent time there on several occasions in the '60s", he added. However, if you are considering to buy the house, please keep in mind that it is not for sale to anyone. So, if you are a Jew, you are just going to fail. As Mu'in Khoury said, "If Osama makes me an offer, I will be willing to consider it." Since the Bin Laden family owned the house, it has changed hands many times. After the Six-Day War in 1967 it became state property and later was used as the office of the Spanish consulate in Jerusalem. Later Mu'in Khoury bought it and yesterday he put it up for sale. It is worth noting that after the terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers in the US on Sept. 11, 2001 the house became a place of pilgrimage for local residents and those who like to have a look at the house where the leader of Al Qaeda occasionally spent times. It remains unclear if Osama bin Laden wants to buy the house back. Source: Globes.com.il |
